Sex-toy parties for women make millions

Last year, Slumber Parties, based in Baton Rouge, posted $39 million in sales, according to company officials. It has 3,100 saleswomen. A privately held company, it does not have to release sales figures.
Barish, who lives in Maryland and is the daughter of a former nun, earned $100,000 last year from working no more than four parties a week.
''Who wouldn't want to stay home with your kids all day?'' said Barish, who is married and has a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old. ''I don't have to be at a party until 6 p.m. and I'm off Saturdays.''
Passion Parties, based in San Francisco with a sales force of 3,800, brought in $20 million last year, and sales are expected to top $30 million this year. The privately held company has had an increase in sales for 31 consecutive months, said president Pat Davis.
Privately-held Pure Romance, with headquarters in Cincinnati, said its sales force of 4,000 in the United States, Canada and Virgin Islands sold $30 million in products last year. That represented a 65 percent increase in sales per year since 2000, the company said.
