CONDOMS: The oldest condoms, made from fish and animal intestines, were found in Dudley Castle. Dating back to 1640, they were used to prevent the transmission of infections during the Civil War. Mass-produced condoms first appeared in 1844, when Charles Goodyear patented the vulcanisation of rubber. Originally they were reusable.
