Russ Meyer : sex noir

Amorous Pop Culture

From a review of Big Bosoms and Square Jaws : The Biography of Russ Meyer, King of the Sex Film

Meyer, who was self-taught, produced, directed, plotted (sometimes with the aid of Roger Ebert) and often shot and edited his films, giving them an idiosyncratic stamp as unmistakable as Alfred Hitchcock's. Though some cultists prefer his garishly colorful 70's sex romps like Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, he is perhaps best known for his mid-60's "Gothic" period, a quartet of sometimes scary-beautiful black-and-white "roughies" like Mudhoney and Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Call them sex noir.

A Director Fixated on More Than Film

An earlier book: The Very Breast of Russ Meyer.

My own appreciation: Russ Meyer: homage to a master.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Russ Meyer : sex noir. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
