Perfect 10 vs. Google Continues

Perfect 10’s case against Google for providing thumbnails of the adult content provider’s images moves to federal appeals court.
There’s much talk of a victory by Perfect 10 being the end of the web as we know it. I doubt that. Though I won’t be surprised if limitations are eventually imposed on media searches in some way. If only by pressure from the RIAA and the usual greedy corporations.
Perfect 10’s lawsuit strikes me as very wrong-headed. Don’t they want search engine traffic? Can’t they realize that it is the site of an exciting image that will get them subscribers?
And it is so easy to add javascript that will causes anyone finding one of their framed thumbnails to be automatically moved to their website.
The photos which Google provided links to were evidently copies made by Perfect 10 website visitors and put on other websites.
The links turned up in the results of Google searches for images of certain models, said von Lohmann.
In the case originally filed in the US district court in Los Angeles, Perfect 10 also argued its copyright was infringed by thumbnail images — small versions of the pictures — that Google generated in response to the search queries.
Perfect 10 argued that Google was giving away for free copyrighted “natural women” adult images that the pornography publisher was charging for in magazine and website subscriptions.
