Second Life: Adult Content Segregated

Second Life’s Erotic Content Ghettoized?
Second Life has become an important extension of many, many people’s sex life. For some virtual sex is the only erotic activity they have. This is particularly true of dominant and submissive persons who are unable or unwilling to practice BDSM in “meat life.”
Linden Labs segregation of erotic content from the rest is sure to arouse some of Second Life’s most ardent users. Over time I imagine less skittish, more adult-oriented providers of virtual experiences will probably woo away a sizable portion of Second Life’s bawdy and kinky participants.
The system we build will have three main features, which we will describe in great detail over the next few months. First, it will provide a way to geographically separate Adult content and activities to a part of the “mainland” designed to accommodate these activities (Estate owners with Adult content on their land will be required to flag their content; they will not be required to move). Second, it will filter search results, so that those who do not wish to see “Adult” results will not. Third, it will require that those who access or see “Adult” content (whether on land or in search) have had their accounts verified – such as by a payment or age verification method.

can we rent and live completely on the adult land? will there be residential zones? as it sounds now, for master slave couples.. the whole normal mainland is not going to be any fun anymore.

All I can really say to this is, “good”.
1) If you have sexual proclivities that you’re unwilling/unable to participate in in the real world, that’s a good sign you need therapy.
2) I for one am damned sick and tired of walking across a sim border smack into an orgy. In the real world, porn is separated from the rest of the magazines for a reason.

Yeah, This whole segregation bit is naught but a way to keep from having to deal with a minority legally lobbying for “Equal Treatment” BULLSHIT I say, they can filter out the “mature content” when they search for stuff to do. it’s that simple, if they don’t wanna casually find sex and violence and vulgar language, then don’t “casually” walk into somewhere that has it. and not to mention the significant effect this will have on many who work hard on SL and such. this will thrash SL economy like crazy.

To Kasper: You say ‘If you have sexual proclivities that you’re unwilling/unable to participate in in the real world, that’s a good sign you need therapy.’ So if I engage in ‘unprotected’ fantasy sex with lots of different partners in Second Life, because it’s fun and exciting as a fantasy, but am much more picky about who I have sex with in real life and take care to use protection, because I don’t want to catch diseases or get involved with people who are likely to harm me, I must need therapy? I think you’re misunderstanding a big, BIG part of the point of sexual roleplay in a game like Second Life.
