SMS arranged marriages

Arranged marriages are still a part of life in India. With cellphones Indian parents can now register their sons' and daughters' profiles via SMS and invite other parents to send them profiles that appear to match. While arranged marriage sounds downright chilling to a middle class honky American link myself I can't help but wonder if the failure rate is any higher than marriages made on silly whims and lust here in the US. Then again:
Many Indians believe that their children's horoscopes must match and that the wedding must take place at an auspicious astrological moment. ...
Offerings for Hindu temples can be made online. Sacred hymns are chanted by fathers in India while sons in the United States follow along though webcams. Indian programmers in the United States write software to build horoscopes and religious calendars.

What a cold and clinical way to plan your child’s future! What’s wrong with marrying the one you love? To rely on the alignments of the planets is not a strong enough foundation for a successful marriage - sort it out!

Arranged marriage works out well if you find a great person. Then it’s pretty much the same as a love marriage.

As a western woman very much in love with an indian man, I face the heart ache every day of knowing that some day soon, I will hear the words i dread… the marriage has been arranged. We both love each other dearly but he must choose between me and his family……. not a fair choice for him and heartbreak for me…

Imm: The guy is always involved in the “arranging”. He is a semi-silent spectator. The “semi” is important! If he really wants, the systems allows him to marry who he wishes! Only in India can you elope at 32.

arrange marriage is good thing compared to meeting talented unfaithuful guys you meet outside. But one have to rember that they don’t have to marry a person if they don’t want to marry. They sure choose a guy or wait for a right guy in arrange marriage.
