Her condition manifests itself most obviously in her height. Jabe stands 188 centimetres, or six foot two inches tall. Less obvious are some of Marfan Syndrome's other features: chest deformities, excessive arm length, spidery fingers, a high-arched palate, lens and retinal detachment and heart problems. ...

"Finding a profession where things about her body that had been treated so negatively in the past could then become assets for her in terms of a professional job, and that she could earn a living and find her confidence through that work, really helped," Merewether says.

"Also, being involved in the sex industry . . . In some ways it's a quite tolerant community I think, and people who are outsiders or who are a bit different or have different life experiences are embraced and tolerated."
