Men & Women in Collars
» BDSM
A very simple basic look at BDSM for people who know it only from rumor, movies, fantasies or fears. Very light bondage does some to be the act the conventional population best relates to; the simple giving or taking of freedom of movement.
The significance of collars in the lifestyle also ties in with the first letter of the BDSM acronym — bondage. A collar, or ropes, scarves, spreader bars, stocks, harnesses or handcuffs, may all be used in BDSM as methods of physical restraint. Bondage is likely the most mainstream component of the BDSM fetishes, with some American studies of sexual behavior indicating that as many as half of all adults report finding the idea of light bondage to be erotic.

This is a very well written article, an explanation of BDSM that avoids sensationalization and puts things in terms that a vanilla can understand even if they don’t want to participate. It is great that it appears in a student publication, reaching out to people who are at a time in life when they may be experiencing desires that they fear are “sick” and that they fear to discuss with their peers. Kudos to the author and to the publisher.
