Thailand, land of the ladyboy, has issued a temporary ban on the castration of minors for reasons not directly related to physical health. This comes at the urging of Thai gay activists who claim that the youths aren’t mature enough to make such decisions about their own bodies.

Young men seek to have their testicles removed in an effort to become more feminine.

“It’s a totally wrong perception that castration will make boys more feminine,” Natee told The Bangkok Post last week. “These youngsters should wait until they are mature enough to thoroughly consider the pros and cons of such an operation.”

Temporary Ban on Castration in Thailand

The tolerance shown towards the “third sex,” as it is often referred to, has led to the country becoming a world leader in sex-change surgery.

Cosmetic castration banned

A crackdown on sexual reassignment procedures will probably move the traffic to parts of Africa and Eastern Europe where it sex related surgery is proving increasingly available.

The issue of their competency to undergo various procedures is constantly faced by people seeking sex change.
