The ladyboys of Thailand

Gender Outsiders: Transgendered & Others

An article on Thailand's ladyboys, a label that encompasses a broad range of transgendered sexual identity.

They are the beautiful creatures of the night and they stand out with their slim figures, ebony-black hair and porcelain pale complexions.

They are called Thai 'lady boys' - transgendered people whose almost perfect package is both a source of fascination, and awkwardness, for ogling men.

They hold court in at least one bar in Orchard Towers in Orchard Road. Known in Thai as kathoey, they are all womanly wiles and girly coquettishness.

Transgender is an umbrella term for anyone who identifies with being part of the opposite sex. They might wish to, or have undergone surgery to become a member of the opposite sex. Some men shun surgery, preferring to just dress up as women. ...

In the world of the lady boys, love and identity are often just an illusion

Hiya Richard, I’m an exchange student at Thammasat University in Bangkok. I am fascinated with the beauty and seeming acceptance of both lady boys and homosexuals in Thailand. Currently I am working on a paper for a class, the topic is Buddhism Influence on the Tolerance Towards Transgenders Individual. If you have any thoughts or suggestions where I could find people to talk to or information I would really appreciate it! Cheers Jez

I LOVE SHEMALES. IN THE USA THEY ARE PRETTY ROUGH TO BE WITH. I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH A KATOEY BUT WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL IN APPEARANCE. ONE WOULD HOPE THEY ARE AS SOFT AS THEY LOOK.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about The ladyboys of Thailand. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
