Good-looking people have an easier life

How looks affect online dating and even getting a job in Singapore.

It's not pretty to say that one desires beauty, so Singaporeans shy away from admitting looks are important. Nearly everyone (98 per cent) polled in the latest Sunday Times Poll claimed to be happy with his or her looks and that looks don't matter.

But if given the chance to change one thing about themselves, 60 per cent would grab it. On the wish list: a flatter stomach, a slimmer figure and more toned muscles. ...

He turned her down after one date as she 'wasn't pretty enough', said Mr Benedict Kumar, owner of the matchmaking agency Lights 2-1. 'She was a little plump, he complained that she wasn't sexy. But it wasn't like he was very handsome himself.'

Such complaints are par for the course, matchmakers say. Four agencies here said looks are 'critically important' for men especially.

there's a working word which Singaporeans are known for; 'KIASU' - I am at lost for words just explaining it.
Good-looking people have an easier life? I think good looking people have more oportunities in life but generaly because of this their life becomes more complicated. As they get older and their looks start to fade what then are they to rely on, the not so good looking people have already learnt to admire ones self from within. Must dash now (gosh my lifes so complicated) Kate
It's hard work being Really Really Ridiculously Good-Looking. But someone's got to do it. :) It is everywhere in the world that Good Looks Matter. Attractive people are thought to be smarter, more charismatic, more social, and basically better at everything than their ugly counterparts. It's a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy from then on. Discrimination based on race, gender, sex, etc. is so last century - it is discrimination based on looks era. Have a fun experiment: go out looking scruffy one day, and spend some time on getting made up the next - it is amazing how differently people will treat you! (Amazing I say! The same people too!)
Goodlooking people do have it easier in alot of aspects in life. Its an unfortunate part of our superficial, materialistic society. Nowadays books are judged by their cover, not the content of their character.
