Those wacky researchers are at it again. Now they are studying the best pickup lines. Two hundred young women were given a list of forty commonplace come-ons to rate.

‘The highest-rated lines were those reflecting the man's ability to take control of a situation, his wealth, education or culture, and spontaneous wit. Those revealing helpfulness, generosity and athleticism were highly rated,”Psychologist Dr Christopher Bale, who led the research, was quoted by the Daily Mail, as saying.

‘A direct request for sex received a low score, but it was not the least effective gambit.

‘Openings involving jokes, empty compliments and sexual references received poor ratings.' Scientists also advised men to think long term and attract their partner with their potential earning power, “ he added.

I've never had a problem with the direct approach. Indeed a pretty boy who jumped in my lap or thrust his tongue in my mouth was always bracing.

Of course I've never had a talent for flirting so someone else's agression was handy.
