Did you know that September 19-25, 2004 is National Singles Week? NSW appears to be the invention of It’s Just Lunch a dating service. To promote the week they've done a survey of heterosexual dating habits:
Are straight women greedy, needy, worried?
Does money matter? The IJL survey found that women do care how much money their significant other makes. 88% of U.S. women find money to be very important in a relationship. On the other hand, 46% of men say it doesn’t matter how much money their significant other makes.

I’ve been in and done some incredibly depressing things in my life but the absolute worst, bar none was the couple of hours I spent in an online dating chat room. I can’t describe the level of depression that such a thing engenders. I can’t even speak of it. I know this is a bit off topic but I can’t help but wonder if others feel the same way.

I need to soften that off topic warning. Mostly I’m trying to stop political and religious tirades on entries that have nothing to do with either.
I only spent a limited amount of times in chat rooms when I was using the web for dating. Mostly I was just visible and made myself available for private chats, IMs. I’d be on three sites at once. But just let them run in the background and most people who wanted to chat were dismissed quickly.
But these were all gay where most people are fairly honest about what they are looking for. I’m not sure how the mores of conventional straight folks complicate things.
For me the web was a useful tool for meeting people but I had it all pretty structured, e.g., this website started as an extended online profile that I told people to read to see if they were really interested in meeting me.
