Nothing new here. Leonardo da Vinci used to “polish” his paintings using this same method, but it is not known if his subject was involved in preparing the varnish. At least, the next time you read a critic’s assesment to the effect that the “artist projects his personality onto the canvas”, you’ll know what he’s talking about!
