Tattoos = prostitution
» Laws and Politicians, Mostly Bad
Did you know it is illegal to get a tattoo in Oklahoma?
It has been argued that it is the law of God that no one should be able to have a tattoo. For those who are Christian, it does say in Leviticus 19:28 that one should not make marks on one’s flesh.
But not everyone is religious, and many Christians have tattoos. So why make everyone play by the rules of one sector’s beliefs?
Rep. Al Lindley is submitting a new bill to legalize tattooing in Oklahoma, much to the irritation of many lawmakers. Some of these lawmakers have even equated getting a tattoo to being a prostitute.

But you’re quoting Lev. 19:28 out of context. If you believe that you’re bound by what verse 28 says, surely you must observe verse 27 also:
“Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.”
You must also do what the rest of the chapter says, including: Not eating tree fruit until the tree is five years old, and not eating any meat with the blood still in it.
I would be sympathetic with anyone who tries to follow ALL the rules in this chapter, and therefore feels that their religion also forbids tatoos. (Orthodox Jews in fact do this, although it is possible to interpret each sentence of this chapter in different ways.)

Lindsay, I did not mean to aim that previous post at you! Obviously it’s the person you’re quoting who’s being selective about Leviticus. - PB

i think prostitution is great! also, about the tatoos… i feel a tatoo on a prostitute is great also! why should it be illegal, its your right to do what you want to your own body, if you know what i mean… hehehe… i do not think tatoos create prostitutes either… it is the essence of sexual activity, not externally. thank you for your feedback, jackin

Imagine my surprise when I am searching for a previous article I ahve written and I come across this webpage! Well, I don’t know if I am flattered or irritated. I’m not sure you can just take my article and use it on a wbsite without getting the permission of me or the oudaily. However, on the topic of tattoos. I don’t think tattoos have anything to do with prostituion at all, but I was merely pointing out the arguments that many Oklahoman politicians have made against legalizing it in OKlahoma. OBviously it is all BS and I refuse to believe for one moment that getting a tattoo is evil. THe LEviticus quote is something to think about though. I appreciate that you have deemed me worthy to put a section of the whole article on this website. Please get in contact with me and let me know who you are/how you got the article etc! MAny thanks, Lindsay Hodges
