Bisexuality confuses people

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual , • Richard Evans Lee

Pansexual folks like myself can be even more disruptive of normal folks labeling. From a mediation on bisexuality:

As to why the bisexual is so thoroughly misunderstood and criticized by the populace, I believe it is fear. Not the “run and hide” variety of fear, but a more subtle, uncomfortable kind of anxiety. Those of us who are firmly in the gay or straight camp can easily understand that there is someone who is on the other side of the spectrum. Someone in the middle seems bizarre. ...

Bisexuality widely misunderstood

By me: Bisexuality as a range and Bisexuality as asexuality: biphobic people, biphobia.

Comments

Hi Richard, This is a topic which has always been of interest to me, but which has become more sensitive, I think, to those around me in the past few years. Our society has become much more familiar with 'gay' ness, especially male gayness, partly because of the media. 'Straight' people I know are now comfortable with queers because they feel they can recognize and differentiate them from themselves. The sort of stereotyped behavior one sees on shows like "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" is discussed with delight in my workplace. They are much less comfortable with a fashion-blind studly male friend of mine who is gay. Or with me, a mother and divorced woman who occassionally dates women. Bisexuals, as you say, challenge that clearly defined line that separates 'us' from 'them'. People who are worried about definitions being blurred are made uncomfortable by this. I have also found that gay women are VERY uncomfortable with knowing that I also like men. I understand, almost, their fear, and so I usually only date women who are like me. I have spent many many tiresome hours explaining my orientation to people who seem to have no trouble with 'gay' or 'straight' but who just can't get their heads around 'bi'. And, since I, like every one else, think the world is like me only less well informed, I believe everyone is really bisexual and just in denial. Of course, there are preferences. I prefer big men and voluptuous women. Green eyes make me drool. I believe this blurring of definitions with specific tastes within individuals is the true nature of human sexuality. Some humans prefer males. Some females. There is no line.
V = ancient feminine symbol ^ = ancient masculine smybol Combined X = "Mysterious" Creative Force The diminished status of either is a destructive course. Bisexuality is the point in the middle and holds high regard for both.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Bisexuality confuses people. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
