The Closet Case Show on the Web

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual

Don't think we'll be seeing anything similar here in North Carolina.

Joel Siegel in the New York Daily News:

Using taxpayer money, the city controller has compiled a new directory of services for gays and lesbians that includes Web links to hard- and soft-core pornography, the Daily News has learned.

One directory entry, titled "The Closet Case Show on the Web," is a listing for a Web site that offers "safe erotica for shut-ins."

The site contains scores of racy and explicit photos, including one set breathlessly titled "Jimmy Losing His Briefs!" and another called "Jeff Helps Sandy into a Suit," the suit being a Speedo.

Another set of photos on the site, "How to Seduce a Preppie," focuses on a "college freshman" named Paul.

Hey there, I see there's some questioning of why gay pornography should or should not be supported, and the question that comes to my mind, is WHY is heterosexual pornography not questioned in this society? It is this which I find most offensive as it objectifies women, perpetuates a hatred of women and contributes to astounding instances of sexual assault against women. This is not hate speech but something I want you (and everyone) to think about more. Oh and I have another question, what does identifying as a gay atheist mean to you? It's just that I have never heard of that term before.
Plenty of people complain about straight porn. From Andrea Dworkin to John Ashcroft. They want to see it all banned. I'm a gay man and an atheist.
My cable show, The Closet Case Show, aired on Manhattan Cable public access television from 1984 to 1994. During the AIDS years (i.e., during the years when the gay community was most affected by AIDS), I gave safe sex advice to viewers, exhorting them to enjoy outercourse instead of intercourse, as a way to avoid the exchange of bodily fluids. I also cheered on the activist community, giving plugs to ACT UP benefits and demonstrations whenever I could. Erotica should be judged in context. My erotica helped save lives. The Daily News and Catholic League "righteous" indignation at my show's mention in the Comptroller's Lesbian and Gay Directory, is typical of the yahoo self-righteous smugness typical of the sexphobic, gayphobic, and basically phobic Neanderthals passing for concerned citizens. Nobody bothered to ask me why I was listed in that directory. I could have said something intelligent, but that would have defeated their puerile purpose.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about The Closet Case Show on the Web. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
