Children's health and happiness are under threat from society's obsession with sex, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, warned yesterday. ...

It was instead depicted as "something which has no real significance". Love was hardly ever mentioned and the notion of commitment was measured in "attachments of weeks, not lifetimes", he argued.

"Sex divorced from love, from commitment, from fidelity, and from the desire to have children is a trivialisation of something profound and extraordinarily important," he told students at the University of Wales.

In Wednesday night's speech, the cardinal went on to speak out against a growing sense that there was a right to a "risk-free" existence.

wow, again with the church bashing! Dont you think he has a point though? Sex is good sex is great....however there should be some restraint on sex in the media because sometimes it is extremely easy for underage people to see the wrong things, for example, picking up my daughter from primary school i saw a couple of young boys reading what was obviously a men's mag..im just worried about the effects on their minds
