Miss Afghanistan scorned at home

Vida Samadzai, 26, a dark-eyed brunette of the Pashtun tribe who fled Afghanistan with her family in 1996, stepped out in a red bikini at an international beauty pageant in the Philippines at the weekend, professing to make the world aware of "Afghan women's talent, intelligence and beauty".

She is the first Afghan woman in 30 years to participate in the Miss World contest. But she has incurred the wrath of the few Afghans who have seen her photos or read the international news stories.

"What this Afghan girl has done is not freedom but is lascivious," Women's Affairs Minister Habiba Surabi said.

I could not believe the negative comments made about miss Afghanistan. How dare anyone one make negative remarks about this woman. As far as I am concerned (an Afghan woman), miss Afghanistan has represented my people and the country well. She is good looking and smart. Afghan men are really afraid because women have the ablity to represent themselves and thier country in any which way possible. I feel that Habiba Surabi, is just jealous and upset because she is not beautiful enough to run for miss Afghanistan. Too bad Habiba, maybe with a couple of face lifts and boob jobs you too can try!

Vida Samadzai is one of the real afghan girls who showed the world how afghan girls are ,smart and beautiful...There are alot of narrow minded afghan people who are against her, one of those narrow minded women is Habiba cow....Infact she has done a gr8 job and I, as an afghan guy really proud of her....

For those who have had a negative thought, scrow you and for those who had a positive one, keep it up. You narrow minded people don't even know who and how she is. She is the most generous, smart, caring and polite person. She helps kids and attends fundraising and many more. So just keep it to yourself and live your life and don't try to stop someone from reaching the sky. If you can't reach it for whatever reason, don't expect her to stop trying. Now go get a live and peace to everyone.
