Maybe Belle de Jour is Roger Scruton

Belle de Jour's rumored book deal has the UK press hot to know who she is. I got an email this morning offering to pay me for any info I might be able to provide. I think I was one of the first to note the existence of her charming weblog. But that was because she was kind enough to link to Amorous Propensities and I saw all these folks coming from her pages.
I'm indifferent to pop culture snoopiness. To be fair once your put your art in public you have to be ready for the day your privacy vanishes. But I hope the mysterious woman of the day maintains hers as long as she wishes.
Though I was very tempted to start a rumor campaign that Bell de Jour is Roger Scruton.

I’m intrigued. Nice idea. But why Roger Scruton? Any particular reason to suggest that he may have decided to take a lighter perspective on life. Granted I heard him give a very dry lecture on the banality of the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” in the Senate House at Cambridge University about 7 years ago, but I have no reason to suppose that he would wish to scale the summit of the current pop culture zeitgeist of public confessionals, voyeurism and ‘chick lit’ (to use a phrase that passes for a descriptive category reference over at Amazon). If you know any better then please share. Just found your site and think it looks fantastic - will have a good look around. By the way, may I ask exactly when you first discovered belle’s blog?
