A Massage parlour in North Staffordshire has become the first in Britain to join a leading trade union as part of a radical campaign to protect sex workers from rape and violence.

Prostitutes on the city's streets are also being invited to sign up to the GMB after officials pledged to pay for private prosecutions against men who assault them. The union claims women all over the UK who sell sex are treated as "second class citizens" by police and prosecutors when making complaints against clients .
