A brothel for the disabled

Sex Workers , • Sexual Health

At Cromwell Heights, a Collingwood brothel, a room has been equipped for mentally and physically disabled men (women are welcome, too, but there is no record of a woman with a disability ever making a booking).

The room has a ledge around the bed to make it easier for a wheelchair customer to lift himself up. The bath has been sunk into the floor and has a handrail to help with getting in and out.

But the room also has courtesans' accoutrements: it is decorated in plush red with sensual paintings on the wall and has a gold-framed mirror bolted to the ceiling above the bed. The fees are standard for all customers: $200 an hour, $100 for half an hour. The very existence of Room One is a challenge to commonly held views that disabled people, like children, are asexual.

Comments

For a movie that looks at the sexual needs of the physically handicapped from a female's perspective, check out "The Theory of Flight." Here is Roger Ebert's review of it: http://www.suntimes.com/ebert/ebert_reviews/1999/01/012201.html I have not seen the other film he referred to, but it sounds good. Here are some more reviews of "Theory." http://www.mrqe.com/lookup?theory+of+flight
Thanks for adding those. I hope other people will add more.

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about A brothel for the disabled. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
