Adolescents overfond of oral sex

Bettina Arndt writes in The Age that teens are too fond of oral sex:

Last year Neil Mitchell reported a scandal over girls offering sexual favours, including oral sex, during lunchtime at a Melbourne Catholic school. More recently year 8 and 9 boys at a Sydney private school apparently hired a hotel room and invited girls over for a competition to see who could be serviced most quickly - a competition which, as an adolescent specialist quipped, would be over fairly quickly with boys of that age.

And there is no talk about STds, sexual safety, or being honest about it: instead, oral sex is seen as a loophole, as it were, an escape from prohibitions and restrictions. “It is not sex, it is only oral sex”. And therefore, it doesn’t warrant condoms, restraint or privacy. Teach them about oral sex, and as important, about safety.

While I naturally quoted the most, um, colorful paragraph in the original article the author's intent was to stress teh need for education. Fewer teen pergnancies isn't to be discounted.

How old are Year 8 and 9 boys? I read this too quickly the first time and was like 8 and 9 year old boys getting blowjobs? Umm, I can't really see the point. Ahh, Catholic school girls, breaking out against the repressive worlds they live in! Its almost poetic.

The stated age didn't really hit me. I fear at eight or nine I don't know that I'd have gotten much benefit from fellatio. But then again I was an uninformed kid and didn't masturbate until a friend told me when I was eleven. Possibly the reporter was naive or merely gullible.

I was masturbating by the time I was eight years old and I couldn't get enough. This was 1955. Those who say they can't see the point or doubt if it could happen are either hopelessly naive or are so lacking in hormones they might as well be neuter. And exactly where would these kids get STDs or any other disease? From other eight year olds who have visited prostitutes? Ha! If these kids are having sex only with others of their own age, where's the danger? So what if they get a disease and die? "Survival of the fittest" also includes those who are intellectually fit. The dumb die. That's good. We have to thin the heard somehow.

HIV is spread by other things than simple sex. I'm all in favor of letting the dumb die but when I was eight there were lots of thing I didn't know about (like masturbation now that I think of it - learned about that a couple of years later when a friend told me about him: a good friend indeed).

That is good. But oralsex on a boy of 8 and 9 would be too hard even if it is done by a girl of the same age. But no STD, no HIV, no pregnancy. They can do any number of times, change partners etc. More advantageous. If the girls would select boys of 12 and above, it may give them more pleasure than a boy of 8

I belive that "year eight and year nine" actually refer to the number of years these kids have spent in school, not their actual ages. I'm guessing that these kids were in the freshman or sophmore years of high school...and probably had the requisite hair trigger that all boys have at that age.

i made it through high school without any type of sex... call me stupid, but too many people are infected. call me lame... but i've seen how attached emotionally people are to those they lose their virginity to. it's not worth the drama. i don't necessarily agree with the darwin quotes... i mean, the dumb die, and the dumb also ruin others lives. oral sex leads to sex which leads to one out of every five girls i went to high school with impregnated which leads to... abandonment, abortions, or just lack of love and care. (gags...) it just the whole mouth to genitalia that’s getting me. and i too think it's 8th and 9th graders - but i student teach at a school where elementary school kids in the 4th and fifth grade are having sex. yours truly, evan

I think it is lovely that children at this age are enjoying one another. I wish we had had the never to do more than just feel the boys up when I was that age. But that was so wonderful when we were so young

EXACTLY sex is a pleasure unnecessary, I too made it through high school without sex and watched how 13 year old girls learnt how to get attention by oral sex with 18 year olds. Oh but there's nothing wring with that except that at that age their minds are so fresh, unformed and naive that experiences like that deeply shape their perceptions of the outer world. Sexual promiscuity is like adultery, everyone knows its bad news they just dont want to hear it. Teen pregnancy is out of control, Bill Clinton said that the day of his presidency and Tony Abbott justifies his abortion debate with it. Oral STD's are also out of control, ever read that article about 14 year old girls giving oral sex in sidestreets to bouncers in Australia to enter nightclubs? Shit is way out of control, and the big instigators of it, the people who put these ideas in their heads are on every saturday morning, in the music your daughter listens to everyday. Too 'toxic' for me thanks Ill keep my wits.

I am of the age where the position in school was reckoned as the form numbers, not years. For instance, if you were in the Fourth Form, you were aged about 14. And if I remember rightly, oral sx was ampant betwen boys of that age. Not girls, so far as I was concerned, as I was as gay then as I am now!
