Sex Education Text Books

A look at sex education texts used in some North Carolina schools shows us what is in titles like Sex Respect and Me, My World, My Future:
… “There is not a lot of proof that condoms really work. Would you trust your life to one?”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that condoms are highly effective against HIV when used consistently and correctly.
…
“If you talk about the ineffectiveness of condoms, it may make people ambivalent about using them at all.”
Other passages that NARAL cited as problematic include: a statement that chemical birth control damages the inside of a girl’s body; a comparison in one of the teacher’s guides that likens using condoms to playing Russian roulette; and another teacher guide’s statement that abortion is not the best choice because it makes the baby pay for the parents’ decision.
Group claims ‘abstinence only’ sex-education books used in New Hanover are misleading
(As the article shows the overall state of sex ed. here in North Carolina is better than you might expect.)
