Erotoxins light my candles
» Zealots, Crusaders, Pests
Remember Ed Meese? He was an earlier edition of John Ashcroft who declared war on porn. He was as deadly a warrior as Beaver Cleaver. I guess he resents his impotence. So he started the Lighted Candle Society. Their fundraising ploy is to invite you to buy a candle a month for ten bucks. The light of those candles will "light of truth may overpower and destroy the mists of darkness" of porn. (Worse than either Green Lantern's oaths.)
For a chairman they hired pro-zealot John Harmer whose wasted decades of his life battling innocent erotic entertainment. His latest weird scheme is to use magnetic resonance imaging to prove that porn isn't merely addictive but causes physiological harm.
They have a scientist (anybody can be one, just get a degree which isn't as hard as it should be) as coined the curious neologism: erotoxin. Meaning that watching something that stimulates you sexually is toxic. She says:
It is a drug." We now know, she says, that viewing pornography triggers adrenaline, "experienced in the gut and genitalia," and triggers the production of testosterone, oxytocin, dopamine and serotonin. "It's a drug cocktail you're hit with. Pornography is a powerful, an enormously powerful, stimulant, which triggers such a rush and such a high. It's not a sexual stimulant. It's a fear-sex-shame-and-anger stimulant."
Now how many human experiences have that effect? Except for the shame and anger nonsense. These candle people are the ones who feel fear and shame. Fear of their neighbor having a good time and their own desire to join in. Again, ignoring the silly last sentence poetry, music, even trashy horror movies and romantic dramas can all produce those same happy effects. Including fretting about the pleasures others enjoy.
These folks compare erotic entertainment to cigarettes (excuse me while I take a puff), heroin and cocaine (hey, I'm a law-abiding citizen, don't you know?).
Their mastery of pseudoscientific equals the creationists. Porn shouldn't enjoy first amendment protection because the brain processes images in a different segment of the brain than it produces speech.
What kind of life do people who spend their days trying to deny others happiness have?

You asked what I think. I think that people who take public positions such as yours should be held legally accountable for all the marriages, families, and children that have been destroyed as the direct and indirect result of pornography, including the physical, verbal and emotional abuse we suffered because of spousal addictions to smut -from PG to XXXXXXX-rated materials in all forms of media.
I sincerely hope that this research will allow us to finally bring a huge class action law suit against people such as yourself that will forever bury the porn industry and those who support, defend and market it. That’s what I think.

Criminalizing personal opinion is a wicked idea.

Cher up there is only p.o.’d @ the porn industry because her daughter is gay. Get a life instead of worrying about others interests which do not concern you.
