Texas Judge Forbids Sex!
» Zealots, Crusaders, Pests
My country,' tis of thee, sweet land of idiocy!
A judge in Texas has banned a teenage drug offender from having sex as part of her probation, as long as she is living with her parents and attending school.
That makes it sound as if she could simply move away from home or drop out of school. But if you violate probation you can be put in jail. (I violated mine but I was in a big city so it was easy.)
More likely you do what you want and try your damnest to make sure the wrong people don't catch you.
Here we see American jurisprudence as it is envisaged by the Bush-loving fundagelicals. Impose ridiculous restrictions and try to rewire the human brain.
But that isn't the only nutty stipulation:
She was also ordered not to "wear clothing associated with the drug culture", "obtain any new tattoos or piercings" or "use tobacco products", and to observe a 10pm curfew.
I sit here in Durham NC surrounded by both black and white drug users. Myself I don't have a clue what sort of dress might be considered examples of the 'drug culture' (which I thought vanished as such about the time I turned 20).
Forbid the girl tattoos? Sure, that will have a mighty 'moral' effect.
Ah, what a silly country.
H.L. Mencken once asked the hypothetical question: if your country inspires so much contempt why not leave. His reply in essence was that he enjoyed going to the zoo.
